What are the biggest keys to sustaining a workplace culture year after year that recruits and retains the highest quality workforce? Maintaining a close-knit, family atmosphere with good communication and making sure employees know that you truly care about them and their families.

Share a brief anecdote/story that reveals your company culture: Our companywide Secret Santa is a riot. Employees got really involved and enjoyed pranking the person whose name they drew. Naughty elves joined in the fun and decorated offices in streamers, Post-it notes and Band-Aids. Some formed alliances for gift delivery/prank ideas. Guessing who your Santa was proved to be a highlight at the Christmas party.

Five words that reveal your company culture? Dedicated, hard-working, close-knit, trustworthy, caring.

Our employees know they are valued because … Family comes first at Omega. The flexibility that comes with understanding that is a priceless benefit. The benefits package is extensive. In addition to the medical and drug coverage, our employees can choose to participate in voluntary cancer, accident, vision and dental coverage.

Provide an example of how your senior leaders prove they are committed to a great work environment: Their doors are always open. They are never too busy to assist or help in any way. Because most of our senior management started as interns, they remember the struggles and want to see everyone succeed.

What specific opportunities did your organization provide in the past year that enabled employees to develop new skills, enhance career opportunities and be promoted to greater roles? We’ve hired several interns and recent graduates as full-time employees in both field and office positions that will give them an opportunity to learn from our experienced project management and field staff and give our current staff the ability to move into more senior positions.

What are some unusual perks offered to your employees? Discounted gym memberships, Verizon discount, free lunches, time off for volunteering, family outings.

What benefits have been proven over time to be the most effective for recruiting and retaining talent? Our benefits package is extensive with medical and prescription drug benefits, health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, voluntary vision, voluntary dental, short and long-term disability, voluntary cancer insurance, voluntary accident insurance, Allegacy Credit Union Benefits, and 401(k)

Who is the longest-tenured employee currently working locally with your company? Paul C. Covington, CEO, 42 years

Describe the occasion in the past year when your local team had the most fun or demonstrated the most camaraderie. What made it special? There are so many! The companywide Dash game, the “Summer’s Ending” lake party, company outings to local festivals, Final Four viewing parties, Secret Santas and Christmas events.
